7th Dec 07, London

Post by liam »

Okay so this gig is taking place in a place called The Dome near Tufnell Park

Which is also where the Upset The Rhythm site is saying Dan Deacon is playing that night

So is John Maus actually one of the support acts for Dan Deacon? Despite his myspace not mentioning it, and the UTR site not mentioning him...

His Myspace *does* mention it. Click on the actual date, and you will see who is playing.

I've just read this elsewhere
178 Junction Road, not Tufnell Park Road.

It might be worth checking this out.

DAN DEACON
Absurdist composer and electronic musician, Dan Deacon, is based in Baltimore, Maryland. Musically influenced by Devo, Talking Heads, Scratch Orchestra, People Like Us, Raymond Scott and Conlon Nancarrow, Dan's music strives to take modern experimental composition and electronic music out of the circle of the esoteric intellectual gangs and hipster communities, placing it into the more informal "fun time". After 12 tours and 300+ shows in little over 2 years, Dan Deacon has garnered a reputation in the underground as an intense performer and classic showman. His latest album, 'Spiderman of the Rings' (Carpark/ Wildfire Wildfire) is his first to bridge the gap between party performer and genuine composer. A mixture of his live show dance anthems, intricate instrumentals and humorous monologues, the new album establishes Dan Deacon as a new type of entertainer in the contemporary underground.

NO AGE
NO AGE is Randy Randall and Dean Spunt - two heavyweights from the LA punk / skate / art underworld, who previously performed as two thirds of that post-hardcore DIY machine, WIVES. A crashing collision of sweetly shouted ditties, ecstatic crunch feedback and violent bouts of percussion, the NO AGE sound is abound with pop songs fighting to break through a mist of white fuzz. In March 2007, the band released a set of five vinyl only EPs across five different labels, including the 'Get Hurt' 12" on Upset The Rhythm. A full-length CD album entitled 'Weirdo Rippers' compiling highlights from these EPs is out now on Fat Cat.

JOHN MAUS
Austin, Minnesota's John Maus is a maniac on a bloody crusade - a tortured evangelist on a mercenary quest to rid our world of villainous defilers of The Gospel of True Love. By turns shockingly infectious and disarmingly unpredictable, his music conflates a perplexing marriage of Moroder's 'Never Ending Story' and classical 12-tone renegades of 20th century past, harking THE NEW path which resurrects romance from its post-modern shackles, and reignites the promise of a better world. John's second album 'Love Is Real' is out now on UTR and sees the man step out of the shadow of assoicates Arial Pink and Panda Bear with an apocalyptic journey through the nostalgic streets of home towns deep into the recesses of the human heart. It's a mixture of exploratory synthesiser theatrics, tensely-strung bass lines and insistent drum machine clicks and pops, all set off by John's deeply resonant reverb-drenched vocal.

GAY AGAINST YOU
Gay Against You are the enthusiastic, messy and very, very friendly duo of Lachlann Rattray and Joe Howe, who inhabit the middle ground between Cyndi Lauper and The Locust. Two subterranean creatures dressed in primary school PE kits, complete with charcoal-stained eyes and badly-concealed erections, they howl over electronics that unite delightful pop ditties and 'tardcore grizzle. Their debut album 'Musclemilk' is out now on Adaadat.

CUTTING PINK WITH KNIVES
Cutting Pink With Knives is the sound of grindcore and noise fighting over a girl, with some terrible synth-pop band soundtracking the whole thing, like in a really bad brat pack film, as if the cast of the Breakfast Club was actually the members of 'Siege and Scum'-era Napalm Death. They're first album "Oh Wow!" is available now via Adaadat
