I spoke with John in TIlburg, and he did seem really excited about the 4th album, he seemed really excited to be making music again (which is fantastic!), one thing he did say to me was that he was wanting the 4th album to be more like Songs.
Sounds weird talking about it now, especially when the third album isn't out yet!
How ariel pink says " Can't stop the press".
John Maus will have a bigger audience, and I'd love to see criticism about "We Must..." from the magazines which wrote bad things about Songs !
It's like pitchfork and the 5/10 mark for the doldrums...
"fuck your blog" (it was on times new viking t-shirt)
yup, john maus is already being hyped up heavily by pitchfork and its affiliates. it'll be interesting to see how it ends given that website's influence...
about ariel pink: i'm a little surprised they didn't take the reissue of the doldrums and house arrest as an opportunity to "erase the past" and, in great p4k tradition, re-review the albums to reflect current trends (like neutral milk hotel). those old reviews almost read as attacks on ariel himself rather than fair criticism of the actual music. i guess nowadays too many people are watching for p4k to get away with their old shenanigans (such as when the reviewer would spend half the review talking about their personal life lol).
