I feel guilty listening to Pets in front of my cats.

"Pets" is one of my favourites so far, but the lyrics make me go NOOOO, JOHN, DON'T SAY THAT!!

Fortunately my cat does not self-identify as a "pet" and therefore isn't taking any offence.

I've had two cats die in the last three years but I won't ask why - RIP Oreo and Penelope

I know John is known for his minimal mantra lyric style but I wish there were a bit more verse lyrics on the album. One of my favorite parts is the middle part of Touchdown where it sounds like someone explained one play to John and that's his entire understanding of football.

Yeah. Woke up this morning with Walls of Silence reverberating in my mind. Love the lyric 'It's written on the walls of silence' - nice!

There's some rugged drumming on some of the tracks that really scratches an itch.

Love the turbocharged Oswald von Wolkenstein style late medieval/early rennaisance contrapuntal interplay around (I think) 2:20 in Over Phantom.

Keep finding myself singing 'your pets are gonna die' John-style under my breath. :delaware:

from a pure pop standpoint, i think teenage witch is one the best songs john has released. it's so simple and novel, like a TV theme, how he mentions 'distilling the essence' of a thing, musically. - the whole album feels like it's closer to his goals that he talks about for his music than previous albums, but TW in particular feels like perfect pop to me. i also get an ariel vibe, which i love

also the lyrics imho are pretty punk rock. like in a way that to a young girl, the idea of being a witch is pretty empowering or rebellious in it's way. idk.
