How do you guys think John Maus feels about the Ferguson protests, or all of the protests and crazy shit happening in the world right now? Do you think he supports it, or would participate? Lots of word of revolution happening...

He would probably mock his own feelings about it or rant in circles about brotherhood.

he has expressed his dislike for cops and how they treat black people, gay people etc in this interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnMfKacI9AY around 57:00 mins in so i believe he would be for the revolution i think

He has often expressed a disgust for the political impotence of our generation, but I'm not sure he would be for revolution Russell Brand style. I think a lot of what Brand says makes real sense and he has a shrewd intelligence and keen understanding of the urgency of the times, but I'm not convinced asking people NOT to vote is the right answer, either. Maybe there is action in inaction, but perhaps there is a way to speak louder than that.

I'm starting to feel like not voting is merely a prerequisite if we want to try and accomplish anything seriously worthwhile politically(or apolitically), but i don't see how it can be a means to an end by itself w/o a much greater love action though

but then the next second i am reminded of something HST said along the lines of 'you almost have to vote now out of self preservation,' which i definitely relate to, but i feel like thats more of a fear based mentality. -if i remember right he was speaking about the political climate in the 90s and how different things had become since the 60's and 70's. anyways, as an aspiring anarcho-pacifist, i've recently decided to try and be a more principled individual in the practical everyday sense, and stop voting unless someone really represents and stands up for the kind of future we want, but that just seems so unlikely to me, if not impossible within our current system(s)

I've never voted and I've been to one political rally which was for Ron Paul and I hated it. I saw docs on Obama and the one Mitt Romney did. I Kinda wanted Obama to win since he's a democrat and I think democrats probably benefit me the most and mostly republicans in my life are annoying and snobby. Russell Brand is pretty funny and I've seen him do late night shows promoting his new book about revolution, which I'm considering flipping through, but I would take it in as a piece of crazy satire. I think true anarchy is personal and extremely detrimental to whomever practices it. Social/political anarchy seems like it's an attractive spin on a group of sociopaths that eventually would turn into a competitive shit fest within the group. I think my own beliefs are most similar to Miyamoto Musashi or maybe Machiavelli, but way lazier and focused on different objectives.

**(should we start a new thread for this 'voting' topic? does it have enough steam to merit that? i guess it's not really a Maus update. .)**

"all voting is a sort of gaming, like checkers or backgammon, with a slight moral tinge to it, a playing with right and wrong, with moral questions; ... i cast my vote, perchance, as i think right; but i am not vitally concerned that that right should prevail. i am willing to leave it to the majority. its obligation, therefore, never exceeds that of expediency. even voting for the right is doing nothing for it. it is only expressing to men feebly your desire that it should prevail. a wise man will not leave the right to the mercy of chance, nor wish it to prevail through the power of chance, nor wish it to prevail through the power of the majority."
