This fascinating hour long conversation really may be my favourite John moment yet (although narrowly missed by his Maus pads advert ) I would like to have footnotes for further reading material, however, as I've only recently just touched on Badiou and was intrigued by so many of the ideas he mentioned.
As I said elsewhere I really admire his 'old fashioned' belief in the truth of humanity and the idea that aspiring to being a 'sweet dude' counts for something. I love the fact that his personal joy comes from invoking a feeling or experience in others, and I hope he knows how well he has achieved just that.

Yeah, it's very interesting the way he doesn't just dismiss genre films. There's something to be found in some of those.

Um -- quite possibly, the best John Maus interview/video yet, by far and I think it might have a lot to do with its length. I'm also relieved to find out that I'm NOT as big of an idiot as I thought and also found this to be the most wholly comprehensible video interview with him of this ilk yet, and it's because they didn't chop everything he had to say up into weird, unconnected fragments. Either that, or I've just totally become used to the way he speaks, his mannerisms and dysfluencies, that, like learning a new language, I've finally broken through some barrier. There's a really compelling, puzzle-piece, circular aspect to the way he delivers his thoughts -- you NEED the full, unedited conversation with the man in order to connect some of those pieces.

There's so much fodder for thought in this interview and so many hilarious bits, I don't even know where to begin. Dude's like a living amalgam of all the best moments from every inspiring professor I've ever had, the ones that left you feeling like you're all fired up and on a mission. Plus, his wild gesticulations are half of the best part of watching him speak. I could go on and on about this interview, I swear...

Great post! Jaime and I had a similar conversation about getting used to his articulation, etc. At first, interviews would seem a little daunting, but when you loosen up to the ideas and let go, it's really not very complex or difficult to comprehend at all. I think you're also right about the cutting and pasting, too, it's much better when he's allowed to express his thoughts in a more complete and coherent narrative, without interruptions added for people with short attention spans.

Thanks, Eugenia. Great interview which gives a little more insight (albeit vague) into what his future plans may be. I appreciate that he is going to make the best record he can make, as always, but I sincerely hope we don't have to wait until he's one hundred years old for the next one!
