Damn. If I wasn't going to be in New York that night, I would have absolutely made the four hour journey to dirty scummy Manchester for this! Why doesn't an event like this happen on one of the other 351 days out of the year I am actually in the UK?
Also what a brilliant idea to invite people to share their demos and art with eachother. This sounds like my perfect evening. Really gutted I won't be there.

OMG! I wish someone did that in LA. I'd dance all night to all that music.

Apparently they are also inventing a signature cocktail for the evening called a Maus Tail. I need to know what's in that!

So another one of these is happening on November 7th. I wish Manchester wasn't such a trek for me, but I am scheming to make the journey regardless. I can't miss this again. Who wants to go with me?

I have managed to find a kind soul to put me up for this. He appreciates fine coffees and Beethoven, so I think we are going to be best friends. Also I have made up a few postcard sized printouts of my John Maus fan art to pass out on the night. Accepting them all -still warm- from the printer, was a way better feeling even than getting a pair of toasty pants out of the dryer! If anyone else is going, say hi.
I was also told they will have lots of pens and paper for people to draw stuff. Oh, I really can't wait for this now.

Re: From Here To Eternity - 5/2/13 - John Maus Night
(Sort of) brief summary for those who couldn't make it.
I genuinely felt like the guest of honor when I arrived at John Maus Night. I was queueing to get my Maustail and it wasn't long before I was approached with many handshakes and smiling faces. They all knew who I was and that I had come quite a long way. I was generously allocated five free drinks (which was more than enough for a lightweight like me!). I had to stick to the Maustails, naturally. I got the recipe, too, for anyone interested.
There were sheets of paper and pens available at every table for people to doodle on. Lots of John Maus and philosophy references (and the odd willy, of course). Apparently these were collected up for use on upcoming event posters, which I think is a great idea.
My prints went down really well, too, which made me happy. Some of them were pocketed on sight with demonstrative claims about which places they're going in their respective houses. I expected to see them trampled all over the floor by the end of the night, but there was nothing left on any of the tables (or the floor) by 2am when it finished. It was thrilling to see everyone assembled there out of a mutual appreciation for Maus. There was a group of guys slamdancing to Bennington. I remarked to my friend that 'this is probably the last thing John Maus imagined when he wrote this song,' and he replied, 'or maybe it is exactly what he intended!'
I got to hear a lot of my favorite Maus compositions (no "The Willies," though. Gutted), and some Ariel, Can, Kraftwerk, Lou Reed and Grinderman, in addition.
I got hugs and phone numbers and a bag of my very own White Mice ('melt-in-the-mouth mice that taste magic') as I left.
Unfortunately, promotion for the night was stretched pretty thin (with a lot of the guys involved not having an internet presence), so I'm hoping to muster forces to get nights like this put on in London in the future. Because of the promotional issues, there wasn't a brilliant turn out, but that meant I got to talk to everyone there on an individual basis, so maybe that makes it better.
Then I went back to my new friend's house (just met him so I could go to this thing) and he played me his brand new LP of Molly Nilsson's The Travels and we talked until 6:30am, so the entire night was a resounding success, in my opinion!
And now, a few photos (sorry they are a bit crap, but the club was a former kitchen from Victorian times -so I was told- hence it was nice and dark in there!):

It's funny to see his name pop up pretty often now on club nights and stuff
