I've pestered him in moments of spontaneous exuberance when I felt I've truly connected with another human on the basis of his music. I've regretted it and felt like some kind of naïve fan girl with nothing original to say. I have cringed over my clumsy choice of words and my apparent token sentiments: all sincerely meant! Maybe that's not the point. It doesn't matter if he never replies, but perhaps I have reminded him that he is missed enough.

Nope! And he owes me nothing. I do miss his (much-needed) presence on the scene, however, and I am deadly curious to know his thoughts on the imminent Ariel Pink epic, too.

I hope he comes out with a new album soon! Or even to know he is well and happy, that would be good news to me.
I was just watching some of his videos the other day and he is one of the greatest live performers I've ever seen. To put yourself in such a vulnerable situation and come out frenzied & triumphant like that. I'll never forget the show I saw. He is a genius. But you all know that already

Favorite John Maus memory: My friend David Campbell was interviewing him on The Current about 5 or 6 years ago. He and David had been talking about him working with Ariel Pink and Animal Collective etc. teaching philosophy in a prestigious grad program in Switzerland... all really impressive stuff right. And so David is like "wow. that's amazing stuff. what would you do next if you could do anything in the world... what would it be?" john maus says "i'd like to help someone who is suffering or struggling." it was just a beautiful silence that followed. perfect.

I really don't think there is anyone else quite like John Maus in music.

I like john maus, the keyboard player and singer, more than a composer. Well, I don’t know how many of you felt it, but I really feel it now. But I just love him so much that none of this matters at all. All his words are so much into me.
