thoughts.

it interests me:

-the general flux in fidelity from 'songs' to 'love is real'.

-the contrast between maus' lyrics & interview style.

-the heavily european weighted interest/focus.

-this new 'cult' following.

To me, "Songs" sounds like it is a much less confident record than "Love is real" is. I don't know if there is a lot of self doubt involved, but when I listen to "Songs", I get the impression that he didn't know how it would go down with the people who heard it. I never thought that at the time of the album, but after hearing "Love is Real", I get the impression that it has more of a 'i don't give a shit what people think' attitude.

Just my take on it though, probably well wide of the mark!

I think it's interesting seeing him perform (aside from, you know, fun and exciting too) because there's like this paradoxical combination of what seems like a really internal performance by this one guy on his own, yet at the same time the simplicity of it makes him seem much closer to the audience and part of the whole experience than most bands I've seen up on a stage. I don't know, I guess it's something that you get in a lot of live music, it's just something I noticed in particular when seeing JM

both albums are and were instant classics. that aside.
songs just feels more parinoid than love is real. both are bliss.
i, sadly, have never seen him live.
as for fedelity diferences, i might be a bigger fan of songs.
