Does anybody have the least clue as to what the new album might be like?
Its been a long time and feel all had to go on was a photograph of some old patch synth gear that JM posted around the time he finished his phd. Absurd, when you have so little to go on, it sort of make you dream all the more, almost willing the next record into existence ( i know im not alone there/here). Ive been imagining all kinds of extensions of We Must Become.. fused to more long form stuff like The River. So um yeh so anybody have any ideas?
I realise its a dumb question. But maybe itll do until something concrete turns up.

Well John was none too pleased with Censors by all accounts, and was saying at one point that any future stuff he did would be quite different. Didn’t he say that he was going back to his earlier style? I can’t remember for sure at this remove. We then had this tweet with the modular synth. Based on the modular stuff I’ve heard, I can’t see how he could make typically Maussian music with it – but part of the speculative fun is imagining what he could possibly do with such equipment. Maybe it would be 'switched on Bach' style...

I'm also wondering if we're finally going to be able to listen to 'Spirit of the white lie [?line]' and 'He's building a castle for us, my love' from the Honolulu youtube clip that was on the peetridish account briefly back in 2012 before it was pulled. They sound fantastic, proper vintage Maus, but it's just clips, at quite low sound level. Also I'd like to see him do stuff with a tinge of rock'n'roll to it - there's something really cool about doing synth/'wave' type stuff that has a rollicking rock'n'roll vibe to it - there's some kind of deep mystery to that imo...

The clips of the two new songs sound heavier, but who knows how that's gonna translate to record
I wish more concert clips could be uploaded (really just want to hear more of the new songs)

Very much agree with this! Counter Strike's ?three? possible tracks all remind me of WMBTPCO, especially the first slower paced one. The second two possible tracks in the video (around the paint thinner bit and the "where is John") definitely hit me with classic John modal chorus meets arcade games, with a bit of Tenebrae, but all with a killer sequenced modular synth!

As for the videos of him live with the new songs, they do sound heavier to me but I wonder if thats just his intensity plus the addition of a band?

Who knows? Speculation. I know I know I want BOTH albums soon as they are announced.
