either that or, even more cynically, pitching an exclusive product to a fanbase likely to already own some of these records, who now have to buy things all over again.

Yeah, totally. And then there's the one where you discover an artist whose stuff you love, then it turns out that there's all these limited editions you've missed because you didn't know about their blog/bandcamp page/whatever, and they're up there on Discogs for silly money, and you've missed the boat purely because you didn't know about them! Yes, they'll be on the internet somewhere, no it's not the same listening to stuff on a laptop compared to on your hi-fi. Ah well. Though occasionally I've got lucky as well - got Instrumental Mixtape by Clams Casino on blue vinyl when it first came out coz I loved the music on it, now too scared to give it a spin in case I scratch it! It's an eye-wateringly superb cut/press/master, too - really shows how good coloured vinyl presses can be.

I don't normally get box sets containing stuff I've already got, but JM is an exception. And I was in time to get the set with a signed score, which is very cool. But I'm not likely to be doing anything like this again for any other artist.

went into local record shop on Friday after work. pretty much they only new release they didn't have.

went into a record shop in a larger city this morning. guy behind the counter said there was a problem between the distributor and the shop and it'll be in in a couple of weeks.

went into larger non-independent record shop a block away and they had it so I bought it.

never give up.

on third listen i can say my favourites are The Combine and Walls of Silence. this last one has a very nice ethereal, hypnagogic vibe, it's basically this album's Keep Pushing On for me, which is great.

least favs are Pets and Over Phantom.

Got the LP yesterday. Haven't played it yet but I put the free download WAV on a CD for the car. Very enjoyable and thoughtful music. Haven't heard a moment yet I didn't enjoy.

Thanks for mentioning the dload card made the WAV available. I usually just assume they are mp3's.

As for the album, imo, it's a masterpiece. John and Ariel outdid themselves this year. They are both virtuosos. Very proud of them.

I like how I was given a choice between WAV and mp3. Not that I'm a stickler for sound quality, but I wanted to get it on a CD right away and it was nice to have a lossless format to use for that.

Still playing the album a whole lot in the car. It's a uniformly strong, consistent album, really satisfying.

Yes, I've really been enjoying this album. Probably more consistent for me than Bobby Jameson. Lots of good ear worms that pop in and out of my head.
