I’m not going to support him anymore but will keep my 2 vinyls. It’s sad. I noticed Kika donates 20 cents here and there. I never seen that low of a donation amount.

Actually a bit annoyed now!
I seen people upset about spending their money on his shirts. I feel bad for them.

I like his records and I think they speak to bigger emotions and politics than this dumb turn he has had. Same with Ariel. I'm sure in a couple of years when all of this seems like a bizarre dream I'll throw them on and remember the good times.

Right now I can't help but feel a little bit conned by John, and that his explanation was utterly bad faith. Teenage pseud shit.

LOL @ Kevin Sorbo Zone.

Yeah. I might do the same. I actually haven’t listened to him in awhile, since I’ve noticed he kept following all the alt right types. It’s like he’s gone off the deep end.

I’ve seen a handful of progressives or Bernie supporters turn to Trump, after Bernie lost. It looks like this is what happened to John.

yeah I think this kind of proves my general idea that he is more strongly against the "liberal" centre-right than anything else

Well, geez. I'm kind of at a loss here, I can understand the shift from left to Trump as I've already explained in this thread, but going so far as to donate to Trump, more than once, when he has plenty of cash and super PAC support? That's a bit baffling, and hard to make "leftist" excuses for. Ultimately, Maus isn't a politician and I never expected him to be a shining communist light for all of us to follow, but I gotta say, I finally am feeling a little disappointed.
It's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that the guy who has always talked about despising bureaucrats is keen enough on Trump to donate multiple times, along with his wife.

Hey Dean, please don't delete the Maus forums too in wake of this. Ultimately it's up to you, but there's so much useful history, resources, and information here. I think it would be a mistake.

Edit: Just realized he donated just as much to Democrats. That's honestly hilarious, I'm at a loss for words now and have no clue what's going on.

He follows people that follow him and then a whole bunch of right wingers, OANN, Breitbart, all the Trumps, Terrence K Williams, Ann Coulter, Conway, Ingraham, Huckabee Sanders, Papadopolus, Scott Adams, a bunch of Trump war room type accounts, Turning Point USA and lots of people with ‘patriot’ in their names. Not finding any left leaning stuff to see if there is a balance of interest.
I've just taken a look. Oh man. This must have been happening for a while without any of us noticing.
I noticed. There has been an undeniable trajectory here towards a certain kind of audience. A few mentioned the associations with Sam Hyde and his alt-right internet troupe a few years back. I started taking stock of shifting attitudes once I became alienated by my ex boyfriend (important because I met him on here) and his relentless rantings about Pizzagate, Pepe the frog, and Donald Trump. He became openly unkind to me and fully embraced this 4 chan incel misogynistic Youtuber culture and told me I would be on 'the wrong side of history.' When I saw John using those kinds of idioms appropriated by the alt-right like 'based' I cringed inside. Take a look at the bios of these people he's following on twitter: 'proud white, married, heterosexual, gun owning, Trump supporting Christian man.' The kind of person who tormented me for years is now being bigged up and supported by John Maus and Ariel Pink and I am pissed off about it. It's these drunk bros who come to the shows now and push me, talk shit about the fans, and swing their yo-yos in my face all night hoping for an autograph. It's like being at a Morrissey show in the early nineties when his following was all disgruntled skinheads with their Richard Allen bibles. Pink and Maus have aligned themselves with Alex Lee Moyer, who thinks she's on some 'righteous path' to show us the 'real shit', but really they are all just tourists in the shitshow. I was disgusted watching John in that clip from the Capitol where he is seen asking where the best place is to get a photo. Like he's just another one of those redneck insurrectionists getting a selfie. Alex Moyer proclaimed it: 'the day we almost died but had a great time instead!' People actually DID die that day. How can you be so self-serving? Sweet dudes don't vote for Trump!
It's kind of unfortunate to have the Ariel forums removed since there is so much history and I was recently critical of him in one thread for some of the reasons I might rehash here later. For now I'm more pissed about Maus because I thought he always made sense.

ARIEL PINK and JOHN MAUS have never been good people in the eyes of the public, and the idea that you need your "idols" to be so righteous is strange and unnerving (and completely predictable with today's current zeitgeist). Additionally, the fact that you didn't dissolve this forum when maus appeared on MDE shows that you're picking and choosing your history the way you see fit. this forum is not a breeding ground for people who philosophically align themselves with the ideologies of AP and JM; this forum is a place where people come to discuss all things AP and JM. Trump disgustingly refuses to deny supporting white supremacy because he needs the voter base in order to push his agenda forward. AP is not the guy to get hung up trying to explain himself and/or apologize-- staunchly so-- and I'm guessing he doesn't care who he looses due to this "breaking news". (with idols like RSM, what moore can we expect?)

HYPOCRISY! If you were all so thorough in your philosophy (aka self-righteousness), you would be living off the grid in a fucking commune-- away from every last bit of society. because there is not one bit of this society you can enjoy without enjoying the suppression that the far-right-wing capitalist system in the US has imposed on its working class. the super-majority of people are being exploited every fucking day in the U.S. so that the war-mongering, capitalist b/millionaires can stay rich. (don't forget the carbon footprint of running data 2 billion smart phones on one planet).

hopefully ^this^ isn't news to anyone here; I'm just trying to say that that all that shit you buy from kroger every week comes at a big cost. if you're not going to sit outside picketing every single corporation in the United States, why are you sitting around picketing a bunch of nobodies (AP and JM) on the internet? maybe b/c you pick and choose your battles ?????? :limpyroll:

p.s.
I understand that mexican summer has to save face by dropping him from their roster, but I am more upset with the label than I am with ariel pink. good thing their roster has already ran its course into dated-ness. 10 bucks says they change their name from Mexican Summer and apologize for not doing so sooner. 'tis a sad day for great music. :/
you have 2 posts here? if you were a more regular participant I might be more sympathetic.

So, you want us to believe:
- no platforming AP for supporting fascistic politics is being fascistic, when AP supporting such politics presumably isn’t
- we should live off grid before being entitled to comment on AP and JM (which you’re happy to tell us by commenting on an internet forum)
- this forum is a place for people to comment on all things AP and JM, except they mustn’t pass judgment on AP and JM who, at any rate, are downtrodden nobodies
- you’re hard left, but are more upset that AP has been dropped by his record label after supporting fascistic politics than him doing so

Whatever your politics really are, you seem to think others are only entitled to be obsequious towards AP or JM. Got to say, it's not much of an offer!

Gosh - if we might not already have a hunch about one way AP’s narcissism has been cultivated

That is great researching, though I notice the Democrat donor is recorded as living in John's home town of Austin, Minnesota, and the Republican & Trump donor registered as living in Arcadia, Los Angeles. From a quick search I can't find a John Maus residing in Arcadia, though am guessing that in such a large country there could be a second politically engaged artist called John Maus. However, even if that is the case and I am not just clutching at straws, it doesn't offer a great deal of comfort. As LadyLazarus sets out, John has been flirting with alt-right culture in a range of ways. I find that impossible to excuse given he is politically switched on. I just loved his t unes and wished him well but, looking back, I guess it shouldn't be such a surprise that his made in a bedroom style music could also strike a chord within the loner male supremacist ecosystem. Still interested to follow what other things old school Maus fans are listening to, but sad times.
