John Maus records removed from store!
After reading John's comments on Pitchfork about record stores, I promptly removed ALL John Maus from both the retail store AND online. Good riddance. Owning an independent record store is hard enough with out artist like John trashing us. "F' You, John!"

Yeah, take this advice. ^pluckypurcell wrote:haha 0/10, lurk more
These are the type of reactions I was reading when that Pitchfork article came out. Ridiculous!

John's message:
http://speedyrewards.webs.com/-%20New%2 ... logies.htm
Pitchfork is the music equivalent of the red top newspapers in the UK, more interested in celebrity gossip and creating stories, rather than actually reporting facts. This interview was so much more different from his regular ones, because they were asking questions such as "What is your favourite game?", they might as well asked "What colour do you like the best?". This is the level of reader that they are appealing to, people who want to read useless quick soundbytes.
The problem with soundbytes is they cut out all of the useful stuff, and dumb it down into one bitesize comment or remark.
I think John was naive about speaking to Pitchfork with the same openness as he does with the various blogs around the net. The blogs that as equally interested about philosophy, song structure and meanings behind the song... rather than the Pitchfork types who want to know what your favourite takeaway meal is.

He only apologized after he started getting shit for his comment. weak. And if thats the case take everything else John said in that interview and disregard it to. And you're right it probably is cheaper from somewhere else because distributors/Labels sell to the public at almost the same price as they sell to independents.

No, I don't believe that is the case Nemico. But hey, what do we know?! We've only been fans for years... and don't base what we know on Pitchfork interviews.
In fact, if you do own a independent record shop, and have removed JM's records because of a fucking Pitchfork interview, then you deserve to go the same way as the majors.
I'd much prefer my indies to be run by guys who know their Rot Shit's, Running, Scott and Charlene's Wedding, and other crap like that.. to ones run by people who only stock records as approved by Pitchfork.

Golden Pudel in Hamburg is a strange venue. Hamburg is like the Detroit of Germany. They're hard, hard people there. [Maus]nemico wrote:And if thats the case take everything else John said in that interview and disregard it to.
You definitely shouldn't disreagard that. We're hard, hard people in Hamburg.
I remember that I read an interview with one guy from Portishead and he, upon being asked what the best club in the world is, also said Golden Pudel Club. So if you're ever in Hamburg, don't miss out on the Pudel!
Btw: When I saw John Maus for the first time at the Pudel, there were about 25 people there, the next time, I think even before the release of the album, just because of the buzz it had already created (I think Maus had a cover story in German Spex Magazine), the Pudel was sold out. What amounts to about a 600 % increase in people.
